12-1pm. Delve into the secret world of the stag beetle, our largest terrestrial beetle. Only by finding a way to monitor it can we conserve it. Discover how they can be monitored using ginger, and why this kitchen staple is so irresistible. Listen to the sounds made by larvae in their underground nests. Investigate its ecology and the challenges it, and other deadwood species, face. This is a Charles Lyell Award Lecture and has been awarded to Dr Deborah Harvey.
