The Data Science Institute invites you to the next Advances in Data Science Seminar taking place on 19 February 2019.

Prof Corri Black from University of Aberdeen will present 'In a world of Big Data – is small beautiful?'

Abstract

In this Seminar, Corri shares reflections on the last 6 years of experience developing a Digital Health Ecosystem in the North East of Scotland. Using a series of exemplars from work in kidney disease analytics, virtual cohorts, low and middle income country data exploration and AI innovation in image diagnostics, she will explore some of the challenges of health data science spanning social license; trust and transparency; scalability, deep local data knowledge; capacity and skills.

She is looking forward to a discussion with you about how we use small ecoystems to understand the big challenges and drive the big solutions for big data in the coming years.

Bio

Professor Corri Black is Co-Director of the Aberdeen Centre for Health Data Science, Associate Director of HDRUK@Scotland and has 18 years experience of harnessing electronic health record data for research. As a Consultant in Public Health, she works for NHS Grampian supporting the use of data to drive quality improvement and in population health surveillance. She is the Clinical Lead for the Grampian Data Safe Haven. Working with colleagues, her research has included real world data pharmaceutical research and now focuses on understanding complexity in health in long term conditions and across the life course.
