Our next AALC seminar is focused on the topic: Austerity and Solidarity. With this online event we focus on resistance to, and in spite of austerity, and also consider how this topic bleeds into experiences for early career academics.
Where our AALC project focuses on the UK, Spain and Italy, with this seminar we broaden the horizons of our thinking and encourage those working in different contexts impacted by austerity policies to participate and attend.
The event will be two-pronged. We will hear from early career researchers Tommy Gavin (Trinity College Dublin), Shereen Fernandez (London School of Economics), Aliki Koutlou (University of Manchester) and Mariana Dias (University of Manchester), all of whom lead cutting-edge empirical work around the topics of austerity and solidarity (including matters of housing activism, institutional racism, utilities and infrastructures, and gender and home). We will also be using the session to think about how to build further connections and solidarities between us, including possibilities for an international network.
As usual, everyone is welcome to join. If you have any specific needs or requests that would make the event more accessible and comfortable for you, please get in touch with us at austerityalters@manchester.ac.uk.
The event will be held on zoom, please sign up for joining details.
