"MicroRNA-based therapies for epilepsy"
MicroRNAs are short noncoding RNA sequences which suppressgene expression by binding to the 3’ untranslated region of targetmRNA transcripts. MicroRNAs are dysregulated in epilepsy, andhave emerged as both biomarkers and therapeutic targets for thedisease. The precise molecular and consequent biophysicalmechanisms of microRNA manipulation depend on the particulartarget pool of each microRNA, and this has implications for brainexcitability and the pathophysiology of epilepsy. I will give anoverview of the field to date, and focus on two key publicationswhich have led to the discovery of new microRNA targets forepilepsy, including microRNA-335, which can modulate seizuresvia interaction with Scn2a transcripts
