Since the release of ChatGPT almost exactly a year ago, we will all have felt its influence in some way, shape or form. It is not often that a new technology can accurately call itself transformative, but this truly is the case with ChatGPT (and more widely, generative artificial intelligence). As a Faculty and University, we need to start discussing not just how we are going to ‘deal’ with the changes its incredible functionality brings, but how to harness and utilise this unprecedented leap in AI for the benefit of our students and our institution.
Please join us on Thursday, 14 December from 2pm to 3pm in Kilburn Lecture Theatre 1.5 when our panel of experts will be leading a discussion on this topic, examining the changes ChatGPT has introduced from a practical and pedagogical point of view, as well as examining assessment on a philosophical level and debating how automation of the written word fundamentally changes the landscape we work within.
Please register your attendance
The event will be co-hosted by Dr Paul Shore and Dr Jon Parkinson. We will be joined online by Dr Martin Compton from King’s College London, an expert in new technologies in education and lead educator on the MOOC Generative AI in HE futurelearn.com
In person, we will also have our group of experts in this domain from within UoM:
Dr Iliada Eleftheriou
Dr Laura Green
Dr Mark Johnson
Prof Steve Pettifer
Each panellist will be discussing the work and ideas they’ve already contributed to in this area along with their visions for where we are headed. We look forward to seeing you on the 14 December.
