The Behaviour Change Meeting Group at The University of Manchester has the purpose of bringing together academics and clinicians across several institutes who are working with behaviour change, intervention development and/or implementation theory. We usually meet online on the first Thursday of the month at 3pm, inviting external speakers and internal speakers to discuss and gain feedback on their latest research in the field. We have a range of health and clinical psychologists in the group as well as epidemiologists, nurses and physiotherapists who work with a range of different short-term and long-term conditions in different contexts (public, patient and healthcare professional groups).

If you would like to be added to the email list to hear about future meetings, please contact Rhiannon Hawkes: rhiannon.hawkes@manchester.ac.uk

Our next Behaviour Change Meeting will be held on Thursday 1st February at 3pm, where we have Dr Laura M. König from the University of Vienna presenting on ‘Improving weight-related behaviours through digital technology: Potential and pitfalls’.

Online via Zoom

Session details: Although many people are aware of the positive health benefits of healthy diets and physical activity, adherence to national guidelines is low. Digital technology such as smartphone apps and wearables have the potential to reach many people at low cost; yet, use of and engagement with digital health technology is limited. This talk will explore the potential benefits of using digital technology in the promotion of beneficial weight-related behaviours and showcase successful examples. Furthermore, it will highlight current shortcomings of the approach and discuss potential solutions to improve digital health for all.

Speaker

Dr Laura M König

Role: Professor of Health Psychology

Organisation: University of Vienna, Austria
