In breast cancer, a significant number of endocrine treated patients develop recurrent disease. The ability of a tumour to adapt and evade endocrine therapy, though clinically recognised, remains poorly understood. Our group use discovery and molecular studies along with in vivo and clinical models to investigate signalling pathways central to tumour adaptability. We have observed that endocrine therapy can directly contribute to metastasis in resistant tumours and that extracellular matrix signalling network are switched on at metastatic sites following prolonged endocrine treatment.
