This special Rare Reads facsimile encounter will highlight the events that occurred in August 1819 when 60,000 people came to St. Peter’s Field, Manchester to peacefully protest for parliamentary reform and were violently suppressed.
On the 206th anniversary join us to look at items including The Peterloo Relief Fund Book (the original copy is currently on display in the Collections Gallery). The book details a list of recipients giving their names, addresses and details of their injuries and the amount of money paid to them in compensation.
The Peterloo collection at The John Rylands Library is a unique and incredible resource for understanding this violent episode in Manchester’s history.
Find us in the Reading Room. Drop in any time from 2:10-2:50pm. No booking required.
