Manchester University Music Society (MUMS) host this special performance to welcome a new cohort of students to Manchester. In partnership with Chorus and Symphony, the concert signals the start of our academic year here at The University of Manchester and also marks International Day of Older People, where we join the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities in celebrating the integral role of older people in our communities.
There’s a celebratory overture by Malcolm Arnold, some dance music by Dvorak, and an early piece by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson. The chorus joins the orchestra for John Rutter’s jubilant Gloria and is perfectly with Morten Lauridsen’s ‘O Nata Lux’.
Programme:
Malcolm Arnold: Anniversary Overture
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor: Petite Suite de Concert
i Le Caprice de Nannette
ii Demande et Réponse
iii Un Sonnet D’Amour
iv La Tarantelle Fretillante
Antonin Dvorak: Slavonic Dance No. 8
Morten Lauridsen: O Nata Lux from ‘Lux Aeterna’
John Rutter: Gloria
