Studying the Origins of Stars and Planets with ALMA
The Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) is the largest telescope ever built. Located on a plateau at an altitude of 5km in Chile, ALMA is designed to study the cool gas and dust in the Universe with unprecedented sensitivity and resolution. In this lecture I will describe ALMA and some of the remarkable results on the formation of stars and planets which it has started to produce since its first observations in October 2011.
