The Manchester-Melbourne Water Research Network, brought to you by the University of Manchester (School of Environment, Education and Development) and the University of Melbourne (Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies, Asia Institute), aims to promote interdisciplinary knowledge-sharing on water and facilitate knowledge exchange in human and environmental geography and allied disciplines (e.g., politics, sociology, development studies, environmental sciences, architecture and planning, environmental engineering, ecology, etc.).
This symposium is an opportunity to hear the latest work on China water research across both academic institutions.
Dr Wenjing (Wendee) Zhang, University of Liverpool, will share with us her recent research on Urban Sustainability and Water Security of China, and her experiences and insights on human geography research in Chinese context. Moreover, this talk is about Wenjing’s PhD thesis, fieldwork in China and a brief introduction to her postdoc experience in the UK.
There will also be a Q&A session, where participants will have the opportunity to discuss the presentations. For those attending in person, coffee and pastries will be served!

Dr Wenjing (Wendee) Zhang
Organisation: University of Liverpool
Biography: Wenjing (Wendee) is an urban geographer with research interests in environmental sustainability, urban planning and studies on smart/future cities. Wendee finished her PhD in Geography from University of Melbourne. Her research mainly involve apply mixed qualitative and qualitative methods on human-environment relationship (i.e. Environmental governance, sustainable management of land and water resources, health and wellbeing) to inform policy making and urban planning. Wendee's research findings had been published on Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews: Water, Land Use policy, Journal of environmental management etc. She joined the University of Liverpool, department of Geography and urban planning since August 2022. Her current research examines how urban green space and blue areas can affect resident's wellbeing in UK and globally.
