Media Marilyn Stowe Family Law Blog – voted in top 10 world family law blogs, with 800k hits pa. Regularly blogged for The Times and appeared over her 37year career widely across the media in print radio and tv becoming one of the UK’s best known family lawyers. Family lawyer on ITV This Morning, with her own phone in legal clinic. Debated at the Oxford Union and addressed major family law conferences.

Pro Bono Throughout her career, she and her firm conducted pro bono work including a daily lunchtime service in her 12 office network. A notable pro bono case; solicitor Sally Clark, convicted of the murder of two infant children. A first appeal to the Court of Appeal had been unsuccessful but Marilyn subsequently became involved and acting pro bono obtained further medical evidence not produced at the original trial and the conviction was quashed. No re-trial was ordered.

My talk will be a run through of my career from opening a single office age 27 on a secondary shopping parade in East Leeds with an overdraft and three mortgages, plus a handful of legal aid clients, through the development of my firm culminating in a £multi million sale to private equity of the UK’s largest family law firm. It is possible to enjoy the roller coaster ride of being a passionate committed lawyer, while at the same time giving back to society, and being a wife, mother and an equally passionate entrepreneur. Pro bono featured heavily in my career, including the well known case of lawyer Sally Clark. Its not easy, but if you truly enjoy practising law and helping others, and you have the intellect, the motivation and the practical skills, you can succeed beyond your wildest dreams.
