Drop in and delve into the fascinating tales of culture, community, and resilience from industrial Lancashire, which have inspired our current exhibition, Workers' Playtime. Our exploration will centre the remarkable lives and literary contributions of renowned authors such as Samuel Collins, Ben Brierley, Allen Clarke, and Ethel Carnie Holdsworth, all of whom hold a cherished place in the county's literary heritage. These gifted writers, deeply rooted in the Lancashire dialect, were motivated by a strong commitment to social concerns such as challenging class inequality, advocating for women's rights, and championing environmental stewardship.
Visit our friendly engagement team in the Historic Reading Room and immerse yourself in carefully preserved archives, compelling books, and evocative photographs for a deeper understanding of these captivating individuals, as their compelling stories and literary works come to life.
