Abstract: The ever-growing wealth of omic datasets has revolutionized our understanding of human health and disease. However, the analysis of vast and complex datasets is challenging and typically based on complex computational tools and methodologies, operated by trained professionals. In this scenario, web-based applications emerge as a promising solution, offering scalability, accessibility, and collaboration potential crucial for tackling big omic data analysis challenges. Through streamlined interfaces, cloud-based computing resources, and integration with diverse analytical algorithms, these applications empower researchers with intuitive and efficient means to explore, process, and interpret omic datasets, also fostering reproducibility and democratizing data access and analysis, making sophisticated analytical tools accessible to researchers with varying levels of computational expertise. As biomedical research increasingly relies on data-driven approaches to unravel the mechanisms of human biology and disease, the development and adoption of web-based applications are of paramount importance to harness the full potential of omic datasets.

Biography: Valerio Izzi is Associate Professor (tenure-track) of bioinformatics and Group Leader at the University of Oulu (Finland). Immunologist by formation, Valerio met the extracellular matrix (ECM) world in 2012 when he moved to Oulu to join the Center of Excellence in cell-extracellular matrix under the mentorship of prof. Taina Pihlajaniemi. Since then, Valerio has been fascinated by the systems biology of the matrisome and has contributed numerous analyses and tools bridging big data and matrix research. The core mission of the IzziLab is tool generation to empower the matrix research community with democratic and easy-to-use means to access, query and investigate matrisomics data in health and disease, especially in cancer. Valerio is also currently chair of the Finnish Society for Matrix Biology and vice-president of the International Society for Matrix Biology (ISMB).
