The PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status at Manchester The PGCE Primary and Secondary programmes are based in the Manchester Institute of Education, and are supported by established partnerships that include schools and colleges in the Greater Manchester area.

The programmes offer the full range of experiences required for Qualified Teacher Status and are deemed ‘Outstanding’ in all areas of provision by Ofsted. More recently, the Good Teacher Training guide has rated The University of Manchester as the best University ITT provider. Both programmes have an excellent reputation for graduate employment.

The fundamental purpose of our PGCE programmes is to facilitate change in one’s critical understanding and practice as an educator. Learning is active and social, and directly related to practice. Both PGCE routes integrate placement based learning centrally throughout all elements of the programmes.

As well as providing training to become a generalist primary practitioner the PGCE Primary offers a Language Specialism for appropriately qualified trainees.

The PGCE Secondary offers training in the following subjects: Biology; Buisness Education; Chemistry; Design and Technology; English; Mathematics; Modern Languages; Physics; Physics with Mathematics.

The qualities and skills we are looking for in our trainees include: • The potential to make a first rate teacher • A good academic record in a related subject • Keen interest in your subjects • Involvement with young people or adults in the community • Experience of observing teachers in schools or colleges • An ability to communicate effectively • Adeptness in numeracy and literacy skills • Well written personal statement • Supportive reference
