The aim of this workshop is to investigate ways of improving the transition to Higher Education in the Biosciences. We wanted to highlight some of the academic challenges students face including adjustment to new ways of learning, self-directed and independent learning; and new and varied teaching methods. This coupled with an increased volume and pace of work, can be overwhelming for students. Therefore, Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) need to be able to manage these expectations to improve the student experience and to reduce the emotional and academic pressures associated with the transition. We will evaluate current HEI provisions and provide opportunities for discussion on how this could be incorporated more effectively into a support package for students entering higher education.
