Topics for the symposium will include the impact of globalisation on contemporary childhood culture, and particularly its implications for picture books; the experience of writing for children and the production of books for global markets, including translations, pictures, and adaptations; and the exoticisation or negation of European spaces in the British imagination and how this affects and politicizes the process of translating books for children and young adults.
The event will be chaired by Penny Brown, whose publications include A Critical History of French Children’s Literature (Routledge, 2007).
