The Research Lifecycle Programme (RLP) is hosting its second showcase event on Wednesday 5 February 2025 at the Core Technology Facility on Grafton Street.
We invite researchers and Professional Services colleagues to discover the positive impact the Programme is having on The University of Manchester’s research environment. This event offers a valuable opportunity to engage with advancements, and network with fellow professionals.
This is a flexible event where you can choose to attend all or just some of the sessions. Please specify which sessions you plan to join in the event registration form.
Schedule
The event will start at 12.30pm with a buffet lunch. Those joining us will be able to speak to members of the RLP team about their work. We will have colleagues on hand to talk about products and services being developed, or in development by RLP including:
· Customer Relationship Management system (with RBE).
· 3D Scanning of physical models from the Manchester School of Architecture.
· Research Cold Data Storage Platform, with IT Services.
· Digital Notebooks and Sample Inventories.
Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research, will get the formal part of the day under way at 2pm with a welcome address and overview of the work the Programme has done so far.
We are delighted to confirm our two exciting keynote speakers:
Gaven Smith, Chair in Cyber Security, will talk about some of the huge challenges the University, and higher education more generally, face as cyber attacks become more prominent. He’ll also talk about how RLP’s planned Secure Research Environment can create a safe space for collaborative research and help grow the University’s research influence and income.
Laura Turner, Research Information and Systems Officer, was a vital part of the team that helped move Pure, the University’s research information system to a new, secure cloud platform. Whilst this move will have gone unnoticed by most researchers, she will explain the close collaboration between multiple teams that made this possible.
This will be followed by presentations and lightning talks, culminating in a panel discussion about the work of the Programme and its future direction. Formal proceedings will finish at 4.30pm and attendees are invited to stay for networking, drinks and canapes.
