The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on most ethnic minority groups in England. But this inequality is a crisis within a crisis – the pandemic has laid bare and exacerbated existing deep-rooted health inequalities. In this webinar, Dr Ruth Watkinson and Dr Alex Turner will discuss their recent study looking at ethnic health inequalities amongst older adults and outline the policy changes that are necessary to “build back fairer” following the COVID-19 pandemic.
They will be joined by MICRA Co-Director, Professor Tarani Chandola who will speak on 'Ethnicity and the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in the UK'
There have been many reports of Covid-19 vaccine “hesitancy” among ethnic minority groups living in the UK, despite their greater risk of adverse COVID-19 related outcomes. This talk will examine some of the reported reasons for the “hesitancy”, comparing data from the COVID-19 and flu vaccination uptake by major ethnic groups.
