Sir Peter Fahy is leaving policing at the end of October after 34 years' service, 13 of them as a chief constable in Cheshire and Greater Manchester. He has faced many challenges in that time, including drastic funding cuts. Known for championing neighbourhood policing and public sector reform, he has a particular interest in issues of race and diversity and held national police responsibility for the Prevent counter extremism programme. He is taking up a post as Chief Executive of the children's charity Retrak.

The Law and Social Justice Lecture is part of the School of Law’s social responsibility programme.
