Bestselling global sensation, Rebecca F. Kuang is the author of the ‘Hard to put down, harder to forget’ (Stephen King) satirical phenomenon Yellowface, inventive fantastical novel Babel and TikTok favourite The Poppy War trilogy. Both Yellowface and Babel were awarded Fiction Book of the Year at the British Book Awards and received critical acclaim. Rebecca’s ingenious novels explore Chinese history, the impact of the British Empire and racism in the publishing industry through fantasy and satire. She joins us to discuss her remarkable career, navigating genres, creating characters and literary influences.
A blazing young literary talent, Rebecca has won multiple awards. Her latest novel, Yellowface, was an instant bestseller, spending 18 consecutive weeks in the Sunday Times Top 10 and was selected by Reece Witherspoon for her book club. Babel won the Nebula Novel Award and was selected by Blackwell’s as their Book of the Year for Fiction in 2022. A Marshall Scholar, Rebecca is currently pursuing a PhD in East Asian Languages and Literature at Yale.
