Overview
This online workshop will cover the fundamental aspects of statistical computing with R. The workshop will commence with a short lecture on the principles of statistical computing with R and its benefits, particularly when using powerful R packages such as the tidyverse package.
Following the lecture, the session will continue in a live-demonstration format which will take the participant throughout the stages required to prepare data for inferential statistical analysis, primarily using the tidyverse package.
This online workshop will consist of a short lecture and will run in a live-demonstration format at a pace which will allow participants to follow along as well as ask questions. The workshop will run for 3 hours and will consist of the introductory lecture, followed by installation and overview of R and RStudio user interface, basic R syntax and packages, data import, wrangling, exploration and visualisation. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get clarification during - and in between - each theme. The course will end with common error messages troubleshooting and ultimately, a final session of Q&As and discussions.
Target audience
The workshop is designed for:
(1) beginners with little or no knowledge of R and RStudio.
(2) users with more experience who wish to familiarise themselves with the tidyverse package.
Requirements
Installation instructions for R and R Studio will be sent to the participants prior to the workshop and it is highly recommended that participants have R and R Studio ready to run in advance. The workshop materials will also be made available in advance to allow participants to practice the R code in their own time after the workshop has ended.
