Riccardo De Vita, Manchester Metropolitan. NETWORK RESILIENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION: AN ANALYSIS OF INTERNATIONAL BRANCH CAMPUSES
International Branch Campuses (IBCs) are one of the most prominent manifestations of globalisation in the Higher Education sector. Their diffusion grew exponentially in recent years, despite concerns about their financial viability and the challenges posed on them by recent events. Using Social Network Analysis, and framing IBCs as Foreign Direct Investments, the resilience of the global network of IBCs is studied over time. Results reveal a growing resilience of the network, but changes over time in terms of the relative importance of different countries. In a field dominated by qualitative studies, our research provides contribution to the literature, methodological advancements and implications for both policy makers and university management.
