About the event:
Open to PhD Students, Postdocs and Early Career Scientists, The Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) and Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences (FMHS) Business Development teams together with University of Manchester Intellectual Property (UMIP) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) would like to invite you to a one-day workshop aimed at exploring the relationships between academic and industrial partnerships in biomedicine.
The workshop is free to attend, there is free transport, lunch and refreshments. Details regarding transport arrangements will be sent out to all registered participants prior to the event.
The aims of the workshop are as follows:
- To provide PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and early career scientists with a flavour of academic partnerships with industry, the exploitation and commercialisation of research and wider career options outside academia
- To create awareness of the opportunities of working collaboratively with industry with emphasis on the value and impact of our intellectual output to society in general, industry and commerce
- To embed a culture of enterprise within the University, for example encourage increased participation in enterprise competitions such as the BBSRC Biotech Yes competition and Venture Out
- To provide an understanding of the function of UMIP and Business Development
- To provide an exciting opportunity to network with scientists who have the experience of working in industry as well as in academia
- To learn about sources of funding available for commercialisation, for example, BBSRC Follow on Fund
- To gain an understanding of what is required for a successful career in industry
