In this free workshop, we will provide an overview of census flow data and demonstrate how to access them. Participants will gain insights into the various types of census flow data available from the UK Data Service and learn how to explore these data using the free online query tool, WICID. We will also offer a brief demonstration of upcoming access methods, such as the new census flow data API.
We will guide participants on how to download census flow data to their machines and highlight the key differences between the 2021 and 2011 census flow data. A quick exercise using Google Colab with 2021 data will also be included.
Participants will use WICID (a free online tool) to complete the activities. To fully participate, attendees should have a Google account to access the Google Colab platform. Spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel, may also be useful for achieving some of the exercises’ objectives.
