Going Slow to Accelerate: Making Space for Everyone in Science
Join the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) for our flagship International Women's Day event on 13th March 2025 from 12-1pm in the Simon Building.
The event 'Going Slow To Accelerate: Making Space For Everyone in Science' will see Dr Claire Malone explore how disabled individuals and other marginalised groups in STEM, including women, face systemic challenges in academia due to the rigid emphasis on time constraints and productivity metrics. Looking at how this culture of speed often marginalises individuals who don’t fit traditional norms, excluding their valuable contributions.
Throughout her career, Claire has completed a PhD as part of the High Energy Physics group at the University of Cambridge as well as being an advocate for the inclusion of groups that are typically under-represented in science subjects.
This is a free hybrid event open to everyone. To attend in-person or online, book your place via our Eventbrite page.
