What does a hospital sound like? How can we listen to hospitals? What do we learn from listening to hospitals? What is the relationship between listening and care?
Join The Care Lab as we discuss these questions and explore the role of listening in helping to understand, challenge and remodel healthcare spaces. In this workshop, you will be introduced to Deep Listening practice, and engage in discussion with others who have experience of the sonic environment in hospitals. In this workshop, we aim to move our listening and discussion beyond the frameworks of ‘loudness’ or ‘noisiness’, to consider the complexity and liveliness of the sounds of the hospital.
This workshop will be led by:
- Alex De Little - a sonic artist and researcher based at the University of Leeds.
- Jo Sutton-Klein - a medical doctor and researcher at the University of Manchester who is interested in exploring and improving the hospital environment.
Earlier in the day, we are hosting two smaller workshops, where a handful of participants will be guided through deep listening practice in more depth, before having a chance to listen directly to a hospital. The participants from these workshops will be involved in the discussion.
