About the event:
The University is hosting the ‘Manchester Psoriasis Shout Out’ (28 April to 2 May) - a roadshow and series of events to raise awareness of the condition psoriasis.
Psoriasis is a common, inflammatory skin condition affecting over 1.8 million people in the UK which appears as red, scaling patches of skin. Psoriasis, however, is more than skin deep and can have a profound psychological and social impact. Significant progress however has been made in our understanding and management of the condition in recent years. Much of this progress has been made in our own world leading dermatology research and treatment centre split between The University of Manchester and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, led by Professor Chris Griffiths from the Institute of Inflammation and Repair.
Different initiatives from across the University will converge this April to form the first Manchester Psoriasis Shout Out.
In addition to new information for the research and academic community, there will also be dedicated events for people with psoriasis and their families.
Comedian Toby Hadoke and fashion blogger Helen Hanrahan will join Professor Chris Griffiths and colleagues at Salford Royal on Wednesday April 30th for the Shout Out roadshow 09.30-4.30pm where there will be an opportunity to try relaxation and ‘mindfulness’ techniques. At 2.30pm, Prof Griffiths and his celebrity guests with present a series of short presentations about living well with psoriasis. Blogger Helen ‘Flaky Fashionista’ will also be involved in a fashion show at the intu Trafford Centre on 2 May (1.30pm and 5.30pm)
Other roadshows take place in St Ann’s Square, Manchester (28 April), Media City (29 April) and University Place (1 May) and there will be a poetry evening hosted by copland smith at The Cornerhouse on 30 April (6-8pm), featuring contributions by experienced poets and novices.
