A number of large studies have recently been published which focus on effective learning strategies and different ways to integrate them into teaching. This session will explore a few research-supported learning strategies that have been shown to improve student learning and engagement. It will take participants through each strategy and critically explore how they might be integrated into their own practice. Finally, we will explore the potential for using the strategies to free up time within lectures and seminars and allow students and staff to delve deeper into materials, conversations and topics. This will be an interactive session and participants can expect to walk away with information and materials they can use immediately.

Delegates will leave the Pedagogy with a good understanding of:

Being able to recognise a few current research-supported learning strategies and where they may be used most effectively.

How to consider a plan for exploring integration into your teaching.

Recognising how such learning strategies can aid student independence and ensure students take equal responsibility for their learning.

The Academy for Education and Professional Development’s mission is “To ensure consistent high-quality development and delivery of educational programmes with student experience at their heart”. Academy events are open to all those who contribute to the development, delivery and management of FBMH undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development programmes including staff from across the University, the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre and our NHS clinical education partners. The Pedagogy Seminar Series provides a forum to discuss research undertaken and/or pedagogy literature of interest.

Refreshments will be provided.
