Title: Plethyms of symmetric functions: modular isomorphisms and stability.
Abstract: The plethysm product of Schur functions corresponds to composition of polynomial representations of general linear groups. Finding the coefficients that express a given plethysm as a sum of Schur functions is a fundamental open problem in algebraic combinatorics. In my talk I will discuss recent results on modular plethysms for the special linear group SL_2(F) that categorify some well-known binomial identities: these are obtained in joint work with Eoghan McDowell and later with Álvaro Gutiérrez, Alvaro L. Martinez and Michal Szwej, and hold over an arbitrary field F. I will also state two very general results on stability of plethysms under adding and/or joining parts to the labelling partitions. These are proved in joint work with Rowena Paget. They include as special cases a family of beautiful stability results originally due to Stacey Law and Yuji Okitani.
