Abstract: The Toska Lab’s research focus is centered on elucidating the role that transcriptional and epigenetic regulators play in normal and cancer development, and therapeutic response. We are passionate about asking clinically relevant questions and translating basic laboratory findings into therapeutic applications to benefit cancer patients while at the same time providing new insights into the fundamental mechanisms of how epigenetic regulators regulate transcription and dictate cell identity. To achieve these goals, the Toska Lab aims to undertake a multidisciplinary approach integrating biochemistry, cell signaling, genomics and epigenomics at bulk and single cell level, organoid technology, and mouse genetics to study the fundamental processes by which epigenetic regulators regulate transcription, cross-talk with signaling pathways, and have the ability to drive transformation and dictate therapeutic response in nuclear receptor-dependent cancers.

Bio: Eneda Toska, Ph.D., joined the Kimmel Cancer Center as an Assistant Professor of Oncology in the Cancer Invasion and Metastasis Program (CIM), in close collaboration with the Women’s Malignancies Disease Group. Eneda also was appointed to a secondary faculty position in the Bloomberg School of Public Health Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB), with membership in the BMB Ph.D. program. Eneda is also affiliated with the department of Pathobiology at the School of Medicine, the Convergence Institute, and the Epigenome Sciences Cluster. Eneda graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Nazareth College of Rochester; received her master’s degree from the University at Buffalo, magna cum laude; and earned her doctorate from the University at Buffalo summa cum laude, completing her postdoctoral work with the late Dr Jose Baselga at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and a senior research scientist role at MSKCC. Dr Toska has been awarded the Breast Cancer Research Alliance Young Investigator Award, a grant from the Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation for Health and Policy, a K22 Transition to Independence Award from the National Cancer Institute, a grant from the Innovation in Cancer Informatics, and has been selected as a 2021 AACR NextGen Star. Eneda also was the recipient of the 2023 AACR Cancer Research Early Career Award that awards early career investigators for their outstanding contributions to cancer research. Eneda frequently participates in NIH and NSF study sections, has served as chair of Epigenetics at the AACR 2022, and as an abstract reviewer for both the AACR and SABCS (San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium). She also organizes multiple seminar series at Hopkins. Her work at Hopkins is studying the intersection of epigenetics and cell signaling. Her translational work focuses on endocrine therapy resistance in breast cancer.
