Join Manchester-based poet and interactive artist Maya Chowdhry as she launches her latest collection, Fossil. Fossil explores the impact of human activity on climate change though a post-colonial lens and from the perspective of all life on earth including plants, creatures, elements and inanimate objects. Maya will be reading from her work and will be on-hand to sign copies. Join us for an afternoon of poetry and discussion with refreshments and a book stall.
Maya will be joined by fellow poet Vahni Capildeo. Vahni was born in Trinidad. Her latest book of poetry, Measures of Expatriation (Carcanet, 2016), won the 25th Forward Poetry Prize for Best Collection. She is also the author of the collections Utter (Peepal Tree, 2013), Dark & Unaccustomed Words (Eggbox, 2012), Undraining Sea (Eggbox, 2009), Person Animal Figure (Landfill, 2005) and No Traveller Returns (Salt, 2003).
“The poems in Fossil have been waiting millions of years to be born. Maya Chowdhry’s language erupts out of deep time, vital and vivid. This is powerful work.” Robert Minhinnick
