There is a lot of interest in the contemporary political theory literature on the relationship between nationalism, liberalism and democracy. The aim of this workshop is to explore and contribute to this literature. How should we understand these three concepts and how do they fit together in theory and practice? Should liberals embrace nationalism or reject it? Does nationalism support democracy or undermine it? And if there is a role for nationalism to play in liberal democratic politics is it a principled or merely pragmatic one? Our speakers will present their latest thoughts on these issues and, through critical engagement with their ideas, we hope to make some progress in our understanding of these crucial questions
