Rylands Breakfasts are our cafe series of debates addressing important sustainability issues in an interesting and thought provoking way. Each speaker will give a 5 minute provocation followed by audience questions and panel debate.

We look forward to seeing you for some coffee, croissants and discussion.

Food - Keeping it Local

What's the secret to sustainable food systems? It could be 'think global and eat local' if a raft of local community based initiatives are to be believed. Whether it's better diets, less carbon, or a reduction in food waste, local initiatives are being seen as the key to making the food on our plate more sustainable.

Speakers: Dr Erinma Ochu, Wellcome Trust Engagement Fellow, University of Manchester.

Dr Kingsley Purdam, University of Manchester, co-author of recent research paper 'Hungry? Food Insecurity, Social Stigma and Embarrassment in the UK'.

Marie-Claire Linford from MC Streetfood.

Jules Bagnoli FRSA, Founder of Refarming and Lecturer on MMU's new Food Business Entrepreneurship undergraduate programme.

Lucy Danger CEO of Emerge, a waste and recycling service provider, our FareShare operation and the Greater Manchester Sustainable Food Tank
