Title: Abstract regular polytopes associated with finite simple groups
Abstract: Abstract regular polytopes are combinatorial structures that generalise classical geometric objects such as regular polygons and polyhedra. These objects can be studied algebraically through an elegant correspondence with their automorphism groups together with a distinguished set of generating involutions known as a C-string, whose size is known as its rank.
In this talk, we will survey known results on C-strings of finite simple groups and report several interesting examples previously unknown in the literature. In particular, I will discuss my recent work giving a uniform construction of a rank five C-string for G_2(q) in even characteristic, together with computational evidence suggesting that five is the maximal rank for this family of groups.
