On Discover Biosciences Day you will find out more about the Bioscience-related degrees at Manchester, the type of careers available to you as a graduate of these courses, and the cutting-edge research going on right now in our labs.
Biosciences encompass diverse degree programmes, including neuroscience, biochemistry and physiology, and this day is designed to give you a taste of just a few of the different subject areas you could study if you choose a degree in this field.
At the start of the day you will be given an insight into the range of degree programmes we offer, then you will attend four different laboratory workshops and get a further taste of undergraduate teaching by attending a short lecture in the afternoon from a leading researcher.
The workshops are:
Cell detectives – a bioimaging workshop
Protein Biochemistry workshop
Using the fruit fly Drosophila to learn about the nervous system: what goes wrong during ageing and neurodegenerative diseases
Physiology workshop – the effect of temperature on fish heart function
(There will be the same content on both days – students should attend one day only.)
