Arif Hasan is a leading scholar working on issues of planning and urban development. His work has had a particular focus on Karachi, the city in which he has lived, but has extended to include cities elsewhere in Pakistan and Asia. He has been influential at the policy level both in his own country and internationally. His contribution has included academic writings and action research, particularly through his association with the Orangi Pilot Project.
