This event will explore innovative methods for anonymising and linking browser and social media information to survey data, enhancing our understanding of news exposure, political choices, and social attitudes.
Dr Gaughan will also discuss how their DIGSURV project (part of the Smart Data Research UK scheme) will support their aim to link digital footprint and survey data to support open research.

Dr Alexandru Cernat
Role: Senior Lecturer in Social Statistics
Organisation: The University of Manchester
Biography: Dr Alexandru Cernat joined Social Statistics in July 2016. Prior to this he was a Research Associate at the National Centre for Research Methods. An important part of his research is centred around modelling measurement error in the framework of generalized latent variables (i.e., Structural Equation Modelling, Latent Class and Item Response Theory) with a particular interest in applying these to longitudinal data.
Dr Conor Gaughan
Role: Research Associate

Biography: Dr Conor Gaughan is a postdoctoral researcher in digital politics within the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research at the University of Manchester. His work combines computational and statistical techniques with political research, specifically applied to the study of online networks and digital data.
