In 2023, we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the coup that led to the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende, ushering in the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Among the various destinations for Chilean refugees fleeing political repression, the United Kingdom played a significant role. While the British government remained relatively passive, it was the British unions and other solidarity organisations that extended their support. Notably, these organisations facilitated the resettlement of many refugees in the north of England. This documentary chronicles the experiences of some of these individuals who sought refuge in South Yorkshire, UK during the 1970s.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director Chris Paul. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xRU-y0wL5U
