Journeys Festival International Takeover
22 June, 6pm
Journeys Festival International host a unique, globally inspired takeover of the Whitworth, bringing the gallery to life with international sounds, performances and creativity from around the world. Celebrate the talents and stories of refugee and asylum seeker artists who now call the city home.
Be inspired by John Akomfrah’s Vertigo Sea and Beyond Borders, a new South Asian textiles exhibition exploring post-colonial identity, displacement and belonging. Get hands on and join the craftivism movement with Asylum Matters, learn about how the Division of Psychology and Mental Health at The University of Manchester has been changing lives and supporting parents in conflict zones under the guise of a simple bread wrapper or add your named to the United for Change welcome banner.
These hands on activities will be set against a backdrop of performances from Manchester International Roots Orchestra, Amani Creatives, TooDhaf and more.
