Sacred works by, Sheremetiev, Gretchaninov and Kalinnikov, and excerpts from Rachmaninov’s ‘All Night Vigil’, are contrasted alongside more recent works by more familiar composers. After a very successful year for the Choir, their venture into the Russian choral repertoire is one which can surely not be missed.
Estival returns again in June 2011 and promises to be bigger, better and more Russian than ever. Taking place in the final week of each academic year, Estival is always a great carnival filled with music and art celebrating the end of exams and looking forward to the summer! This year culminates in a performance of Shostakovich's masterpiece, the 5th Symphony.
