Nazir Afzal was appointed Chancellor of the University of Manchester in 2022. He has a long and prestigious record of engaging with, and fighting for human rights,
social justice, anti-racism and social equalities.
He has served as Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Northwest of England, as chief executive of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, and as
member of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) Complaints Committee, amongst other influential roles.
He is author of many publications, including the books The Prosecutor (2020) and The Race to the Top (2022).
The BASS Annual Lecture gives our students (and staff) the opportunity to hear from people of note who have done vital work in the areas of social justice,
and made big, positive differences to the lives of people around the world.
The lecture will be followed by a Question and Answer session
