Join the MCRC and CRUK Manchester Institute for an exciting training event on commercialisation and entrepreneurship designed for all Manchester cancer-focused postgraduate researchers and postdocs led by Dr Nathalie Dhomen and Dr Laura Etchells.
At any point in your PhD or postdoctoral projects you could be developing something that could be commercialised. Entrepreneurial skills including pitching and communicating are also key to securing grant success and are relevant for those looking to move into industry. This event will highlight key contacts and relevant UoM support during your studies/research and beyond. You will have the opportunity to work with attendees on pitching an example commercial product, with prizes available for the winning team. Full support and guidance will be offered throughout this event.

Dr Nathalie Dhomen is the Cancer Commercialisation & Innovation Lead at the University of Manchester Innovation Factory and the Innovation and Commercialisation Lead at the MCRC. Sheis responsible for proactively identifying, evaluating and building opportunities which have the potential to create value, either as successful spinout or valuable license. Her team at the Manchester Innovation Factory are also responsible for the development and delivery of robust business plans and IP protection.
Dr Laura Etchells is the Enterprise Business Development Manager at the University of Manchester Masood Entrepreneurship Centre. Developing an entrepreneurial mindset requires mastering a suite of practical skills. These skills include opportunity recognition, creativity and innovation, comfort with risk, communication and collaboration, flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-reliance, future orientation, critical thinking and problem solving. The Masood Entrepreneurship Centre supports the development of start-up businesses to achieve economic and societal benefit worldwide. In addition to taught units, they offer a range of co-curricular activities, including competitions, speaker events, workshops, and start-up support programmes for students with ambitions to learn or launch their ideas.
Event date: this event will be taking place on Thursday 14th March from 13:00-15:00 with an optional lunch from 12:30-13:00.
Event location: this event will be hosted in-person at the Oglesby Cancer Research Building, M20 4GJ.
