The Italian community established itself in Ancoats, which by the end of the 19th century was known as Little Italy. This community thrived in the early 20th century, but encountered many struggles between, including during the two World Wars, when the United Kingdom was on the opposite side to Italy.
On this one-hour walking tour with Elena Cavallero you will begin by going back in time to the end of the 18th century, when the first Italian immigrants came to Manchester.
The tour will consider how this area looked and the living conditions, during the Industrial Revolution. Then walking across the Northern Quarter, we will see where during the 19th century many shops and craftsmen's workshop appeared, and trace the origins of Little Italy.
PLEASE NOTE: THE TOUR ON 4 JUNE WILL BE IN ITALIAN AND IN ENGLISH ON 11 JUNE.
