About the event:

''Looking for inspiration on how to start your own business venture? Wondering what it’s like to make the transition from research to start-up? Want to learn more about the commercialisation of science?''

If so, the North West Biotech Initiative (NBI) is hosting a guest speaker panel event called Confessions of An Entrepreneur which will be a great opportunity to hear from three company founders about their journey from academia into the world of start-ups and spin-outs.

This event is focused on exposing the highs and lows of commercialising research in order to inspire young graduates to take the first step towards entrepreneurship.

Each speaker will share the details of their personal transition from researcher to entrepreneur, and about the process of adapting their research or interests to form a start-up company. A short question and answer period will follow each speaker’s presentation which will also be an opportunity to fully engage with this panel of experienced entrepreneurs.

Dr Carol Treasure is the Co-founder and Managing Director of XCellR8, a contract testing laboratory committed to the full replacement of animal testing. XCELLR8 provides scientifically advanced and ethically sound replacements for animal testing to cosmetics, personal care and household product companies and their supply chains.

Professor Krishna Persaud is a Professor in the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science at the University of Manchester as well as the Founder and Chief Scientist of Multisensor Systems Ltd - a developer and supplier of non-contact water pollution monitoring based on novel chemical sensor technology and bespoke signal processing hardware and software.

Mr Shiraz Anwar is a graduate of the MSc in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship degree programme at Manchester Business School and the Co-Founder of Kaffeination Ltd which launched to market UPs Solid Energy, their highly caffeinated and vitamin enriched energy gummies initially targeting the local student population in Manchester.

Free lunch will be provided during our networking session after the event!
