The concluding triptych in the Quatuor Danel Shostakovish cycle, starting from bleakness and cynicism, passing through lyricism and beauty remembered with heart-breaking nostalgia, to a sequence of six Adagios that is among the bleakest, yet most truthful music ever composed.
