China has lifted more than 700 million people out of poverty since late 1970s and announced in 2020 a sweeping victory on ending extreme poverty after an eight years’ national fight on it. While many have looked at experiences from the process, this seminar analyzes the course of policy implementation during which different political and social systems encounter and interact with each other and influenced the policy agendas. This sociological account of China’s poverty reduction may help understand the complexity of policy implementation process and state-society relations in China.
