This online workshop is aimed at researchers who are interested in using and/or creating fictional texts in their work. Participants will explore different ways in which researchers have used fictional texts for data collection, as analytic method and to share findings, particularly focussing on work in the social sciences. We will examine some practical, epistemological and ethical rationales for using these methods and also consider the challenges and pitfalls involved. Participants will have an opportunity to read and critique some examples of sociological fiction from different genres. In addition, the session will include some practical advice on getting started and lots of chances to experiment with writing research-inspired fiction. No prior experience of writing or using fiction in research is required but participants should come prepared to discuss ways in which they might like to use fiction in relation to current or possible future research projects."
