In the metrics driven audit culture of today’s Higher Education landscape, there is a danger that teaching and learning are reduced to homogenised, transactional processes.

In her inaugural lecture, Professor Hannah Cobb will examine the value of reframing teaching and learning as a process of constant becoming, always mediated through the multi-scalar relationships between humans and non-humans within our learning contexts and beyond.

Inspired by posthumanist feminism and drawing upon the subject of archaeology, Hannah will trace this approach through a journey that takes in ancient tombs and Viking boat burials, muddy trenches and beautiful beaches – examining its value for challenging the inequities of archaeology, and HE more broadly, by breaking down the dichotomy between teacher and learner, making space for vulnerability, kindness and compassion, and inviting the multiplicity of lived experiences of learning from all involved in the process.

Event schedule:

4.15pm – Welcome drinks 5pm to 6pm – Professor Hannah Cobb’s inaugural lecture 6pm – End of inaugural
