This year marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Hugh Bourne, the co-founder of the Primitive Methodist movement. Primitive Methodists were known for their direct preaching style. Bourne, a fervent orator and leader, supported children’s education, adult bible literacy, and women’s involvement in the movement.
On Saturday 5th March we invite visitors to come and see original letters and notebooks that belonged to the man who shaped the religious and social lives of thousands of people. Drop-in to the Historic Reading Room of the John Rylands Research Institute and Library to take a look, and to find out more about the Rylands’ extensive Methodist collections.
